On Friday evening, December 31, 2021, I finally crawled out of the ‘hole’ I had carved in my world for the previous two weeks. Fortunate to have two weeks off for Winter Break from the university, I immersed myself into a marathon writing spree for my fourth book, The Woodsman. With the exception of taking my mom Christmas shopping one day and Christmas day itself, there I sat…at the island counter in my kitchen with my laptop, a cup of coffee, a pot of coffee on stand-by, and an invisible force-field shielding me as words spilled out of my finger tips to the glowing screen before me. I laughed. I cried. The array of emotions and circumstances that had formed inside my head poured out much like the rain and downpours we received. Perfect writing weather. I had no desire to be outside or doing anything other than finishing the first draft of the book before the end of 2021.
So, I celebrated. I celebrated 2021. Despite the pandemic of Greek letters that kept coming our ways, I made the decision in early 2021, that life was short. We all witnessed it. It was time to do some of those things I had put off for so many years due to fear of failure. I wrote a book. Painted Windows. 357 pages. And, published it. I am getting great reviews and feedback (4.6 out of 5 stars!)! Then I wrote the sequel, Dashboard Lights, which is in the final editing stage and should release in early 2022. The third book, Ruby Ring, the final in the Gunpowder series (at least for now…), is in the editing phase. But, I expect it should be out mid-Spring! And, of course—The Woodsman—fresh from my brain! Four books written in one-year! And that’s with working a full-time job!! Yes, my nights and weekends and vacation days were very full! I celebrated 2021! I accomplished something I never thought I would do in my life: not write one book but four books! And, now I wonder what was I so fearful of?
Then, I celebrated 2022! I have ideas what may occur this coming year, but make no resolutions. I quit resolution-making years ago. I found out that ‘saying’ is not the same as ‘doing.’ I just bypass the ‘saying’ part and go straight to the ‘doing.’ In the midst of doing edits on ‘Ruby Ring’ and ‘The Woodsman,’ I am already researching and sketching out plot-lines and outlines for additional creations that dance just below the horizon! As I did in 2021, in 2022 I plan to relish each and every day the dear Lord sets before me, and I request his guidance as I continue on the Writing Journey. I have found Him to be my best and most dependable companion!
Thanks to all of you who have supported me, who have read my book, who have offered kind words, and who anxiously await Book 2, Dashboard Lights!
Remember, each day is a gift. Be positive and productive people!! Above all else, be thankful!
Yours,
